St. Peter’s Hospital Chief of Otolaryngology Elected President of Professional Society

Gavin Setzen, M.D., who serves as the chief of the Otolaryngology Division at St. Peter’s Hospital, was recently elected president of the American Academy of Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery (AAO-HNS) and its Foundation.

Dr. Setzen will serve a one-year term leading the 12,000 members of the AAO-HNS, who specialize in treatment of the ears, nose, throat and other related structures of the head and neck.

Dr. Setzen is a member of Albany ENT & Allergy Services. He has been a member of the AAO-HNS for 25 years. “Dedication, passion, and commitment to excellence in patient care will propel the AAO-HNS forward in the year ahead,” he said, and spoke of collaborating with other key stakeholders in health care.

Prior to being elected president, Dr. Setzen has held several leadership positions in the AAO-HNS.

Professionally, Dr. Setzen’s interests include the medical and surgical management of nasal and sinus disorders, otolaryngic allergy, thyroid and parathyroid endocrine surgery, point-of-service CT imaging, coding in rhinology and allergy, as well as practice management and socioeconomic aspects of health care.

Dr. Setzen received his medical degree from the University Of Witwatersrand Medical School in Johannesburg, South Africa. He completed a general surgery residency at North Shore University Hospital in New York, and an otolaryngology residency at Albany Medical Center.
