Times Union: Were You Seen…Swinging on a Star 2025

Were you seen at Swinging on a Star on March 8, 2025, at Rivers Casino and Resort in Schenectady? The event benefited The Community Hospice Foundation, Samaritan Hospital and The Eddy Foundation.

It was a star-studded evening, as hundreds turned out to support the event, ultimately raising $165,000 to benefit The Community Hospice and Eddy Visiting Nurse and Rehab Association. Proceeds will benefit those “extra” patient services for which there is no reimbursement or insurance, such as massage and music therapies, grief counseling, and a wish fund for hospice patients; as well as a fund to help support basic necessities that home care patients can’t afford, such as medicine, food, clothing, and heat.

Highlights of the evening included an elderly couple, both on hospice, interviewed by Mistress of Ceremonies, CBS 6 News Anchor Liz Bishop. Dr. Lewis Taub, 99, and wife Barbara Kass, 93, testified how the program has helped them live longer and enjoy life to the fullest which is the mission of hospice.

Additionally, Jennifer Volz, a mom of four young boys who turned to hospice 15 years ago when she lost her husband, returned with all her now adult sons to speak on how much our Camp Erin program helped her family at the darkest hour. Camp Erin is a weekend bereavement program designed for children and teens who have lost a significant person in their lives. The camp, set in the Adirondacks, offers a safe environment where children can enjoy fun camp activities while learning essential coping skills to deal with their feelings. Best of all, the kids get to meet other kids who have also lost a loved one so they know they are not alone. The camp is free, supported through donations and fundraisers like Swinging on a Star.
