WRGB: CenteringPregnancy Program Offers Unique Prenatal Care, Boosts Outcomes in Capital Region

Capital Region Midwifery’s new group-based prenatal program, CenteringPregnancy, was featured on WRGB/CBS6.

Maureen Murphy, licensed midwife, explained how the program works.

From the report:

A pioneering program for expecting parents is now underway at Capital Region Midwifery, a practice of St. Peter’s Health Partners Medical Associates, offering a unique approach to prenatal care that has shown promising results. The program, called CenteringPregnancy, is the first of its kind in the Capital Region.

Helen Powell, an expecting mother, said, “You can all kind of talk to each other and go through the same thing and not feel rushed, have all your questions asked, and just be in a really like inclusive environment.”

“CenteringPregnancy is a group prenatal care program, which brings together anywhere between six and ten women, who are all due around the same time,” said one of the midwives involved in the program, Maureen Murphy. Participants come in, weigh themselves, have their blood pressure taken, meet individually with a midwife, and then engage in group discussions.
