WTEN: Getting middle school grads interested in nursing

St. Peter’s Hospital College of Nursing is hosting a week-long summer camp for high schoolers interested in nursing careers. The college, along with the Belanger School of Nursing in Schenectady, are both hosting a camp in partnership with the Nurses Middle College Charter School in Rensselaer.

As part of the experience, ninth and tenth grade students from across the Capital Region get hands-on experiences in healthcare.

Dr. Susan Birkhead, interim dean at St. Peter’s Hospital College of Nursing, spoke about the camp and the need for more nurses, in a report on WTEN/ABC10 News, noting “In New York state it’s projected that there will be a deficit of 30,000 nurses by 2030.”
