Dr. Catherine Adams Named Community Preceptor of the Year

Dr. Catherine Adams, chief of palliative medicine at St. Peter’s Hospital, was recently named as the 2018-2019 PGY-3 Community Preceptor of the Year by the Albany Medical Center Family Medicine Residency Program.

The award recognizes a physician for excellence in teaching and dedication to the education of family medicine residents. The residents in the program singled out Dr. Adams and her team, requesting to spend more time with them during their geriatrics rotation while learning about caring for patients with serious illness.

In addition to leading her multidisciplinary team in managing the symptoms and stress of serious illness, Dr. Adams is the course director at St. Peter’s Hospital of Schwartz Rounds, a forum for reviving compassion in modern healthcare. She has a special interest in caring for patients with cancer diagnoses and has recently been elected as the Cancer Special Interest Group Chair of the American Academy of Hospice and Palliative Medicine. She is a graduate of the Yale Palliative Medicine Fellowship.
