WTEN: Gynecologic Cancer Awareness Month

September is Gynecologic Cancer Awareness Month. Joyce Barlin, MD, of Women’s Cancer Care Associates, discussed the different types of cancers affecting women and the importance of early detection through screening, during an appearance on WTEN/News10.

From the interview:

Dr. Joyce Barlin of Women’s Cancer Care Associates, part of St. Peter’s Health Partners Medical Associates tell us endometrial cancer, or uterine cancer, is the most common gynecologic cancer in this country. One of the main reasons uterine cancer cases are climbing is due in large part to increasing rates of obesity. However there are other risk factors as well.

Dr. Barlin who specializes in gynecologic oncology joined us in our studio to talk more about risk factors, symptoms and the importance of yearly visits to your gynecologist.
