
Albany Cardiothoracic Surgeons, a practice of St. Peter’s Health Partners Medical Associates, is thrilled to welcome Chris Rokkas, M.D., Ph.D., MBA, to its distinguished team of providers.
Dr. Rokkas has also been named chief of cardiac surgery at St. Peter’s Hospital, a key affiliate of St. Peter’s Health Partners. He brings extensive expertise in adult cardiac and thoracic aortic surgery, with a global reputation in the field of complex aortic procedures.
A highly accomplished cardiothoracic surgeon and internationally recognized expert in adult aortic surgery, Dr. Rokkas most recently served as professor and chief of cardiac surgery at the University of Wisconsin in Madison, where he helped establish the institution’s Aortic Disease Center. His previous leadership roles include serving as professor and chief of cardiothoracic surgery at the University of Vermont in Burlington, and professor of cardiothoracic surgery at the Medical College of Wisconsin in Milwaukee.
Dr. Rokkas earned both his medical degree and Ph.D. from the National University of Athens, Greece, and completed advanced surgical training at Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri; SUNY Medical Center in Syracuse; and the Medical College of Wisconsin. He later returned to Greece to serve as chief of cardiothoracic surgery at the University of Athens.
His clinical expertise spans the full spectrum of adult cardiac surgery, including:
- Coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG)
- Aortic and mitral valve repair/replacement
- Complex aortic aneurysm surgery
- Maze procedures for atrial fibrillation
