Dr. Victor Becker Named Chief Medical Informatics Officer at St. Peter’s and Albany Memorial Hospitals

Victor P. Becker, M.D., has been named chief medical information officer for Acute Care Albany at St. Peter’s Health Partners (SPHP). His starts at SPHP on January 8, 2018.

As chief medical information officer, Dr. Becker’s responsibilities include providing leadership for physician education and usage of computerized technologies, particularly electronic medical records, to improve patient care at St. Peter’s Hospital and Albany Memorial Hospital.

Dr. Becker joins SPHP from Susquehanna Health in Williamsport, Pennsylvania, a four-hospital system where he served as chief medical information officer since 2013. In this role, Dr. Becker led the system’s efforts to select, develop, and implement new clinical applications and electronic health record workflows.

Prior to that, from 2008 to 2013, Dr. Becker was chief medical information officer at Laurel Health System, before the system’s merger with Susquehanna Health. During that time, and from 2003 to 2006, he also served as medical director of Laurel Health Centers, with responsibilities including leadership of six Federally Qualified Health Centers with 10 physicians and nine other providers. He has been a staff physician at Laurel Health Centers since 1999.

Dr. Becker received his medical degree from the School of Medicine & Dentistry at the University of Rochester. He completed a residency with the Finger Lakes Rural Residency program associated with Highland Hospital and the University of Rochester.

Dr. Becker is certified by the American Board of Family Practice. He is a diplomate in clinical informatics for the American Board of Preventive Medicine, and a member of the Association of Medical Directors of Information Systems, the American Academy of Family Physicians, and the Pennsylvania Academy of Family Physicians.
