SPHP’s Schools of Nursing Sends 1970 Graduate a New Nursing Cap

Recently, Deborah Boehlke Maynard – a graduate of the 1970 class of the Memorial Hospital School of Nursing – reached out with a request. She had the original button and cotter pin clip from the nursing cap she received at graduation more than 50 years ago, but the cap itself had worn out long ago. Might she be able to purchase a new cap to make her set complete?

The faculty of St. Peter’s Health Partners Schools of Nursing was absolutely delighted to hear of Ms. Maynard’s request and a new cap was quickly procured and sent to her with our gratitude.

The very happy former graduate sent back a letter of thanks, noting: “The years have flown by since receiving my cap in 1970, but I remember how proudly we nurses wore them while working in our field. Those of us who wore them will never forget how they were our ‘badge of honor.’ My nursing memories will forever be with me. They made me who I am.”

May is Nurses Month, a perfect time to thank nurses past, present and future for their service to keep our communities healthy. Thank you to nurses everywhere for all that they do, every day!
