CBS 6: Hundreds Walk a Mile in High Heels To Help End Sexual Abuse

April 25, 2015 Corporate Communications Staff SPHP in the News
CBS6 stopped by the excellent “Walk a Mile in Her Shoes” community march against rape and sexual violence. The event, hosted by the Sexual Assault & Crime Victims Assistance Program for Rensselaer County at Samaritan Hospital, took place on April 25 in Troy. Here is what Lindsey Crusan, director of the program, said: “Rape and sexual assault they are the most under reported crimes, really less than 15% of people chose to report the crime to the police, so we know that there is a lot more happening then is even being reported officially to the police and law enforcement,” says Lindsey Crusan, director of the program. “We have a 24 hour crisis hotline so we’re available to people whenever they need us to answer questions give them counseling, be of assistance. But then we also have short and long term counseling and therapy support groups we provide medical and legal advocacy and accompaniment and then a big part of what we do is we try to prevent these crimes from happening in the first place,” she adds. Samaritan Hospital & B95.5 FM Honored by New York State Broadcasters Association

October 26, 2015 Angela Yu News
Samaritan Hospital and Albany Broadcasting radio station WYJB 95.5 FM were recognized recently by the New York State Broadcasters Association with a “Serving New York Award” for their partnership on the annual “Walk A Mile In Her Shoes” event. Walk A Mile is an annual community march held in April in observance of National Sexual Assault Awareness Month. The event raises funds and awareness against rape and sexual violence. Walkers, especially men, are challenged to literally walk a mile in women’s high-heeled shoes in support of what victims go through. About 500 walkers of all ages turn out to support the event, raising tens of thousands of dollars to benefit outreach and prevention programs. Times Union: Pop-Up Vaccination Sites Come to Troy, Albany Housing Developments This Week

February 9, 2021 Courtney Weisberg SPHP in the News
The Times Union published an article on pop-up vaccination clinics held in Albany and Troy during the week of February 1. St. Peter’s Health Partners worked in partnership with the New York State Governor’s Office and the Troy Housing Authority to establish and run one of the sites, located at the Kennedy Towers building in Troy. From the article: Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo said Wednesday the pop-up sites are expected to reach over 25,000 New Yorkers this week. They are being organized at churches, community centers, public housing complexes and cultural centers in an effort to get the vaccine into poor and minority communities that have been hit hardest by COVID-19. “COVID brought the ugly truth of inequity and inequality in this country to a tipping point,” Cuomo said. “COVID has killed Black and Latino New Yorkers at a higher rate and that is why these community-based sites are one of New York’s vaccine priorities.” St. Peter’s Health Partners began vaccinating residents of Kennedy Towers on Wednesday and was expected to continue that effort Thursday.
