WRGB’s story highlighting a new investigative unit in Saratoga County aimed at targeting narcotics, sex and human trafficking, featured insight from Bill Bean, program manager for the Saratoga Springs clinic of St. Peter’s Addiction Recovery Center.
From the story:
Local health experts say the growing presence of dangerous substances, particularly fentanyl and methamphetamine, underscores the need for a coordinated law enforcement response.
“Fentanyl, methamphetamine certainly is a problem here, and again, I want to applaud Saratoga County for taking this initiative to help make the streets safer for everyone,” said William Bean, a program manager at the Saratoga Outpatient Clinic for St. Peter’s Addiction Recovery Center.
Bean warned that taking narcotics not prescribed carries serious risks because users often have no way of knowing what they are ingesting.
He said the drug landscape in Saratoga County has shifted over the past decade.
“Ten, 15 years ago it was cocaine. That was the narcotic on the street in Saratoga—anyway, some heroin. Some of the prescription opiates like oxycodone, OxyContin. And I think in the last few years, especially since COVID, we’ve seen an influx of a little bit more fentanyl, but certainly methamphetamine, which we didn’t ever believe that we would ever see in this community,” Bean said.
