Dr. Reed Discusses Health Care, Economy with Warren Buffett

Berkshire Hathaway CEO Warren Buffett joined St. Peter’s Health Partners (SPHP) President and CEO James Reed, M.D., for a live-streaming event on Wednesday, October 17, 2018. The discussion took place in Omaha.

During the 30-minute discussion, Dr. Reed and Buffett discussed the current state of the economy and health care, and factors that will likely impact the future of New York’s medical professionals, including medical malpractice insurance.

Following the discussion, Dr. Reed said he shared with Buffett the breadth, depth, and true integration of services offered by SPHP. He committed to Buffett that SPHP could serve as a reference point for the delivery of integrated, efficient, high quality, and people-centered care.

“As health care continues to evolve, employers around the country will look to organizations like ours as an example of how to provide truly people-centered care,” Reed said. “We have got to stay laser-focused, on the quality of the care we provide, and on the efficiency with which we deliver that care.”

Along with his role at St. Peter’s Health Partners, Dr. Reed is Chairman of the Board of MLMIC Insurance Company, which earlier this month became a Berkshire Hathaway Company. MLMIC, the largest writer of medical professional liability insurance in the state of New York and one of the largest companies of its kind in the nation, sponsored the “Conversation with Warren Buffett” event.

Buffett and Dr. Reed addressed the impetus and expected positive impact of the MLMIC/Berkshire Hathaway transaction.
