St. Peter’s Hospital Recognizes Staff Member With Inaugural “Geeky Beak” Award

St. Peter’s Hospital and Albany Memorial Hospital CEO Virginia Golden awarded the first-ever “Geeky Beak” Award to Karen McKenna, patient care supervisor in the St. Peter’s Hospital Emergency Department, for humor in the workplace.

Given in appreciation for appropriate use of humor in the workplace, the Geeky Beak Award will be presented periodically to a colleague, physician, or volunteer who brings laughter and joy to St. Peter’s Hospital or Albany Memorial Hospital. The award, a brightly colored metal flamingo, recognizes the importance of humor in helping our caregivers stay healthy.

McKenna was awarded the Geeky Beak after bringing two pairs of “emoji” sunglasses to the Meaningful Milestones celebration at St. Peter’s Hospital – a pair for Golden and a pair to share with colleagues receiving their service awards. McKenna received her 15-year service award at the June celebration.

Geeky Beak nominations can be emailed to Melanie Lewis, human resources manager, at Melanie.Lewis@sphp.com. Nominations should include the nominee’s name, job title, and a brief paragraph describing how the nominee brings appropriate humor to the workplace.
