St. Peter’s Diabetes & Endocrine Care Earns CDC Full Recognition for Diabetes Prevention Program

St. Peter’s Diabetes and Endocrine Care recently earned the Full Recognition designation from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) for its diabetes prevention program. The national designation is reserved for those diabetes prevention efforts that are effectively delivering a quality, evidence-based lifestyle modification program.

In a letter from Ann Albright, PHD, RDN, director of the Diabetes Prevention Program with the National Center for Chronic Disease Prevention and Health Promotion, St. Peter’s was lauded for the sustained success of the lifestyle change program, which “makes an invaluable contribution to the prevention of type 2 diabetes, both in your community and nationally.”

“It is immensely gratifying to see the science of diabetes prevention being implemented to improve the public’s health. You and your colleagues should be extremely proud of this accomplishment,” said Albright. “It is programs like yours that are turning the tide in the fight against the epidemic of type 2 diabetes. Thank you for all that you are doing and for your commitment to reducing the preventable burden of diabetes in the U.S.”

St. Peter’s Diabetes and Endocrine Care offers a free, 16-week “PreventT2” lifestyle change program designed to help qualified individuals make lasting changes to prevent Type 2 diabetes. The program offers:

  • A CDC-approved curriculum
  • The skills needed to lose weight, be more physically active, and manage stress
  • A certified diabetes education/trained lifestyle coach
  • Support from other participants
  • Follow-up meetings to help maintain a healthy lifestyle

To determine if you qualify, start with the CDC’s self-assessment quiz that can be found at http://www.sphp.com/dpp

If you scored a nine or greater on the quiz, or have previously been diagnosed with prediabetes by your physician, you are eligible to participate in the “PreventT2” program.
