Sunnyview Rehabilitation Hospital‘s adaptive recreation program provides individuals with disabilities the opportunity to enjoy activities they may have thought impossible. Sunnyview’s summer 2019 programs are:
Adaptive Fishing
Friday, June 7 | Six Mile Waterworks, Rensselaer Lake, Albany
Catch and release only. No fishing license required.
Adaptive Sailing
Tuesday, July 16 | Camp Chingachgook, Lake George
Engage in a brief on-shore safety training before enjoying an accessible boat ride on Lake George. Lunch included in cost.
Adaptive Golf
Friday, July 19 | Stadium Golf Club, Schenectady
Professionals and therapists will be available to assist with adaptive techniques and trials in the Paramobile. Program followed by lunch.
Adaptive Kayaking
Tuesday, August 6 | Adaptive Sports Foundation, Windham
Learn the basics of kayaking and then put them to practice on the water.
Adaptive Rowing
Tuesday, August 13 | Saratoga Lake, Saratoga Springs
Learn the basics of rowing and then put them to practice on the water.
The adaptive recreation program aims to provide participants the opportunity to return to previously enjoyed activities or to try something new. Sessions are designed to encourage and assist each participant to have fun, and reach their personal level of success. Sunnyview therapists, volunteers, and experts in that specific activity work provide participants with the resources and knowledge needed to succeed.
Sunnyview works closely with other adaptive sports agencies to connect Sunnyview program participants with a way to pursue the activity on a more frequent basis.
Programs range in cost from $15-$45. Registration is required.
