WAMC recently aired a story on “hand, foot, and mouth” disease, also known as Coxsackie virus, which has infected a number of students in five local schools.
Dr. Alan Sanders, chief medical officer for St. Peter’s Health Partners, was interviewed for the story. He discussed how the virus is transmitted, and how on rare occasions, it can lead to issues with inflammation around the heart.
