The Innovative Healthcare Alliance of New York (IHANY) is pleased to announce the appointment of Matthew Miles, M.D., FACEP, as its new chief medical officer, effective September 23, 2019. Dr. Miles is board-certified in emergency medicine, and has been in practice for nearly 20 years, most recently serving as regional medical director at Landmark Health.
“We are truly excited to have someone of Dr. Miles’ caliber,” said Paul Barbarotto, D.O., IHANY board president. “His expertise will be of considerable benefit as we continue to grow and look to further deliver on our commitment to transforming how we deliver using new care models that can only be supported through payment methods that differ from traditional fee for service.”
Dr. Miles is a licensed emergency medicine physician under the American Board of Emergency Medicine. He received his medical degree from the State University of New York and completed his Emergency Medicine Residency at Brown University/Rhode Island Hospital. He is a fellow of the American College of Emergency Physicians and has been the recipient of multiple awards and honors recognizing his work and clinical excellence.
“It is an honor and a privilege to work with the IHANY team and the great health systems in our region as we grow and change how care is delivered for our community,” Dr. Miles said.
In his role as chief medical officer for IHANY, Dr. Miles will focus on leading all providers in the network in supporting the mission and goals of IHANY to provide value-based quality care to those populations IHANY is charged with improving health status for while also lowering the total cost of care. He will bring forth evidence-based practices to decrease care variation and help design and implement new models that result in improved health for members IHANY has under contract.
“Dr. Miles will play an integral role in developing and executing strategy, working with all the providers in the IHANY network to develop programs and care models that advance health in a much more coordinated and integrated way,” said Leslie Barden, IHANY chief executive officer, and chief strategy officer at St. Peter’s Health Partners. “This includes forming unique connections with providers already in IHANY and also with the broader community such as urgent care, behavioral health entities and social care agencies that help us create a system of whole-person care. We are thrilled to have him join the team in this capacity. His local connections will help us really advance our success.”
