Norman Dascher Appointed as AHA State Delegate and Policy Board Member

Norman E. Dascher, Jr., chief executive officer of Samaritan and St. Mary’s hospitals, and vice president of Acute Care Troy, St. Peter’s Health Partners (SPHP), has been appointed as a state delegate and member of Regional Policy Board 2 for the American Hospital Association (AHA). The appointment is effective through the end of 2018.

The AHA is districted into nine regions across the United States. Region 2 includes New York, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania. Dascher is also a member of the AHA Regional Advisory Board 2.

Dascher has more than 38 years of experience in health care administration. He was appointed to his current role at SPHP in 2011, when Northeast Health merged with Seton Health and St. Peter’s Health Care Services to form SPHP.

Dascher first joined the system in 1996 as chief operating officer of Samaritan Hospital. A year later, he was appointed chief operating officer of the Acute Care Division of Northeast Health, which includes St. Mary’s. In 1998, Dascher was promoted again to chief executive officer for the Acute Care Division, and executive vice president of Northeast Health.

Dascher has a bachelor’s of science degree in business administration from the University of Massachusetts at Lowell, and a master’s degree in health care administration from the George Washington University in Washington, D.C. He is also a Fellow with the American College of Healthcare Executives.

A resident of Lake George, Dascher is active with many professional associations. He serves as chairman of the Board of Directors for the Iroquois Healthcare Alliance, chairman of the Troy Redevelopment Foundation, member of the Board of Directors of the Healthcare Association of New York State, and was past chair of the Board of the Business Services Corp of the Albany-Colonie Regional Chamber of Commerce.

Dascher has received many awards for his professional and community leadership, including the 2007 Regent’s Award for Senior Level Healthcare Executive from the American College of Healthcare Executives; the 2006 Time and Service Award from the Albany-Colonie Regional Chamber of Commerce; the Unsung Hero Award from the United Way of Northeastern New York; and the Operation Care Award from Samaritan Hospital.
