“Watch Your Step” Seminar on Sept. 6 to Discuss Fall Prevention for Seniors

St. Peter’s Health Partners will hold a free educational seminar to discuss fall prevention, titled “Watch Your Step.” Free and open to the public, the program will take place: Thursday, September 6 6 to 7:30 p.m. Mercy Auditorium – St. Peter’s Hospital campus 310 S. Manning Blvd. (Across the street from the hospital) The distinguished speakers will: Matthew Sonagere, DO | Sunnyview Rehabilitation Hospital Lynda Shrager, OTR | Eddy Visiting Nurse and Rehab Association Kevin Paulsen, PT | Slingerlands Rehabilitation Among older adults, falls are the leading cause of unintentional injuries, hospital admissions for trauma, and even death. At the “Watch Your Step” seminar, Paulsen, Shragner, and Dr. Sonagere will discuss how to prevent falls. They will provide home safety tips, suggest exercises to improve strength, speak about fall risk factors, and  share how physical and occupational therapy can help decrease fall risk. Spotlight News: Music Fans Will Witness Gregory Nash’s Return From a Devastating Stroke on Saturday

Spotlight News published an article on local musician, Gregory Nash. At 44, Nash thought he was too young to have a stroke, but he was wrong. Despite being told he would never be able to speak again, Nash persisted. Thanks to his relentless hard work and the dedication of physicians and therapists at Sunnyview Rehabilitation Hospital, his speech is slowly returning. More importantly to Nash, he has regained his ability to play the drums. And now, Nash wants to pay it forward and help those who have helped restore his passion. Nash will perform in a benefit concert at 8 p.m. on Saturday, March 31, at The Hollow in Albany. The night is billed as “One Stroke Roll – Benefit for Sunnyview Stroke Victims, Celebrating Gregory Nash’s One Year Strokeversary!”  Proceeds will go to help stroke victims receiving treatment at Sunnyview. NewsChannel 13’s Dan Bazile spoke to Dr. Vincent Somaio with the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at Sunnyview Rehabilitation Hospital regarding head injuries and memory loss.
